TITLE OF POSITION: NUTRITION SPECIALIST
SUPERVISED BY: Health, Safety, Nutrition, Facilities, Transportation Coordinator
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: Provide over-site and ensure compliance for the Child and Adult Care Food Program. Ensure safe food service practices are followed in WCFD centers Facilitate opportunities to provide nutrition experiences for children and families. Must have the interpersonal skills to work with cooks, teaching staff, children, parents, and county/state agencies.
- Prefer Baccalaureate degree in Nutrition or a related field with work experience in one or more of these areas: USDA and/or CACFP program management, Food services, or Nutrition services.
- Must have a minimum of an Associates degree with exceptional work experience. Wyoming Child & Family will only accept college degrees from accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Maintain knowledge and direct oversite of current nutrition requirements as specified by USDA.
- Assists with nutrition program monitoring in coordination with the Health Services Coordinator.
- Provides training and over-site for cooks.
- Serve as a food-services/nutrition resource person for cooks, teaching staff, and parents, providing information and printed materials.
- Provide direct education and training to children, parents, and staff in a variety of settings, including the classroom, private childcare and preschools, and family homes.
- Helps teaching staff plan and provide nutrition experiences for children and families.
- Provides over-site for food safety practices and quarterly inspections.
- Conducts USDA site reviews 3 times per year.
- Performs monthly USDS compliance reviews of menu calendars and production records, and provide written/verbal feedback to cooks as indicated.
- Reviews the 10-week cyclic menu to ensure the minimum USDA recommended requirements are met.
- Collaborates with cooks and financial staff in the area of food purchasing and budgeting.
- Collaborates with cooks and office staff in the areas of USDA meal counts and record keeping systems.
- Attends USDA/nutrition/company trainings as requested.
- Works with and utilizes community resources as appropriate.
- Attends required training sessions.
- Promotes positive public relations within the work setting and community.
- Recruits children for the program within the guidelines established by Department of Health and Human Services and Wyoming Child and Family Development.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Board or its designee.

STANDARD JOB REQUIREMENTS:

- Must have an employment physical and TB risk assessment prior to work with children.
- Must have AHA CPR and First Aid Training completed within 90 days, unless otherwise specified by the supervisor.

- Must have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record and liability insurance as required by Wyoming State Law. Driving records are reviewed annually.
- Wyoming Child and Family Development requires an initial statement of health from a licensed healthcare provider and a health status annual assessment
- Must be able to work with families and children birth through age 5.
- Must possess proper stress management techniques.
- Must possess visual acuity and stamina to read technical material for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time without fatigue of discomfort.
- Must be able to travel to site locations, meetings and trainings, both in and out of state.
- Must be willing to drive in a variety of weather conditions.
- Must be able to hear and process ordinary conversation and telephone conversation.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, children, families, and community.
- Must be able to tolerate air-conditioned buildings and fluorescent lights.
- Must be able to climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or reach, to retrieve materials and supplies from ground level to a height of at least 5 ft.

- Must be able to assist a child to safety in case of an emergency.

Transportation staff must:
- Able to tolerate possible exposure to biohazards, i.e., body fluids, etc.
- Ability to recognize mechanical problems that would require stopping of bus to prevent damage or potential accident while driving.
- Able to read gauges on dash of bus and recognize indicator of problems.
- Able to tolerate possible gas and diesel fumes.
- Able to tolerate dust and gravel.
